About Scruton
Scruton is located just off the A684 approximately halfway between the market towns of Bedale and Northallerton. The village has all the benefits of being a quiet rural location but with good, nearby local junior and secondary schools and excellent motorway links north and south while nearby Northallerton offers the fast East Coast trainline service to Edinburgh and London Kings Cross.
The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are situated to the west, while to the east are the North York Moors. The Northumberland and Peak District National Parks are also within easy reach north and south.
We are a close and caring community of approximately 200 homes, several of which are scattered outside the core village in farms and cottages. The population is circa 480 comprising a range of retired people and families of school and working age.
Scruton is noteworthy for its ancient origins and as being one of only 56 “Thankful Villages” in the country that lost no men in the First World War.
Scruton is a popular village and enjoys a justified reputation for being a warm and friendly place to live. There’s a strong sense of community spirit where residents are quick to pull together and eager to be involved with community activities.
