Scruton Sky at Night – November 2024

With BST over we can now look forward to darker skies. Thinking of a telescope as a gift? Perhaps consider a good pair of binoculars instead. For more check out Reeth Astronomy Group online.
Comets/meteors – the Leonid meteor shower will peak on 18 November.
Constellations – the Pleiades, M45, or 7 sisters lies 440 light years away. Look S/SE this month with binoculars.
Planets: – Venus will be the brightest object in the sky from early November. It begins low on the horizon (between SW & SSW) rising to become the ‘Evening Star’ at the end of November. Jupiter is the brightest gas giant, close to Taurus (the Bull) constellation; look SE during mid-November.
The Moon – A new moon on 1st Nov; first quarter 🌓 on 9th; full 🌕 (a supermoon) on 15th; and last quarter 🌗 on 23rd.
